Laundry.
We did our SECOND round of laundry here. It's noteworthy because the first time we did laundry, we only had to contend with the washing machine, AND the Airbnb host was nice enough to show us the English instructions. This time, we were also lucky to be shown what to do from our current host, but since we can't speak French and she can't speak English, who knows what was lost in translation! This time we also had a dryer to contend with.
On the washing machine, there were all sorts of symbols that were meant to be helpful, but I couldn't tell if one was a bathing suit or a onesie. And sooo does that mean delicate or extra dirty? She put our load on a setting that had all the symbols and asked us what temperature we wanted it at. We said 30 deg C. I'm sorta of proud of that communication because we know numbers! It just takes a few seconds of interpretation.
With the dryer, we were instructed to do something with a dryer part and water. I thought we were suppose to empty out water, and I tried to confirm with Matt. Turns out he was just saying "Oui oui" even if he didn't understand it. To clarify, Matt asked "avant or après," in which she said "après" and a bunch of other words which I had no clue. But hey we figured out we were suppose to empty out the water after the dry cycle. Reading online later, turns out the reason we don't do this in the U.S. is because dryers vent to the outside.
The washing machine took 1 hour and 6 minutes. We weren't able to figure out the dryer settings with her help, so we picked a middle setting. When we returned an hour later, the clothes felt wetter than they were out of the washing machine. We're not sure what we chose, and I didn't expect the clothes to be dry, but I also didn't expect the amount of dampness after one hour of something. Everyone in Switzerland does hang dry their clothes, so that's what we did in the end =)
Amy's word of the week: bonsoir
I've been saying this word for a while now, but I didn't connect the word to its spelling. If I had seen the actual word, I would have said bon sore instead of bone swa. Matt says bon sore could be a dinosaur or type of Pokemon.
